April is Autism Awareness Month

autism ribbon April is National Autism Awareness Month. One in 500 children are affected by autism and related disorders, impacting over 400,000 families in the U.S. alone. Autism is the third most prevalent developmental disorder in the world. If you don't know someone with autism, you will soon. Autism is the fastest-growing developmental disability in the United States. A child is diagnosed with autism every 21 minutes.

For those of us living with autism, the reality of this heartbreaking disorder occupies a monumental proportion of our time, thoughts and energy. And we are exhausted. During April, we reach out to our families, friends, neighbors, business leaders and politicians to take up our cause. It's our opportunity to help them understand our children and the crisis of autism affecting our nation.
