We need your help

Have you heard of the FDA Globalization Act of 2008? Probably not unless you are a manufacturer of cosmetics or beauty products. Even if you have not heard of it, this proposed legislation will affect you if you purchase bath, body, or beauty products. Chances are you do. So please, keep reading.

In a nutshell the Globalization Act of 2008 is a proposal that will likely put a large number of small independent manufacturers out of business - period. Many of the new regulations and proposed fees, which could add up to approximately $12,000 per year, would be unfairly burdensome for most small companies. If you are a Flower Peddler customer or if you purchase from any other of the thousands of small cosmetic companies out there, you may find that if this legislation goes through, your remaining choices will only be big box businesses. Gone will be the creativity, variety, and price ranges that small, independent manufacturers bring to the market.

While we agree with the importance of regulating the cosmetics industry to ensure the safety of consumers and are proud to say that Flower Peddler is compliant with the Good Manufacturing Practices outlined by the FDA, it appears the proposal does not address methods for increasing enforcement of federal laws nor does it offer consumers any more protection than the system that is currently in place. What the Globalization Act of 2008 will really do is lay the ground work for the monopolization of the marketplace by big corporations by proposing manufacturing practices and fees that small companies could not possibly comply with and remain in business.

Donna Maria Coles Johnson, CEO of the Indie Beauty Network, has organized a campaign against the FDA Globalization Act of 2008. Watch the short video below as she explains the proposal better than we can and then take a moment to sign the petition HERE.

Please, if you enjoy personal care products from independent beauty manufacturers, join us in the fight by signing the petition from IBN. As consumers you are also affected and are an important part of this process. You can help spread the word and let your voice be heard by sending this link to your friends and colleagues. Demand meaningful legislation that promotes and supports small business, not kills it.
